About

Hi - I'm Rochelle.

I grew up in the West where the landscape is so beautiful it can make you well-up with tears even while you are sitting in morning rush hour traffic. Taking care of the land - whether it was our suburban backyard where we grew all our food or on our 4th generation family ranch in central Montana - has always been a way of life.

Now, I cultivate a hilltop outside of Boston, MA. Sometimes I grow food, sometimes flowers, sometimes other weird things - I am always experimenting. My New England garden is my science and design lab as much as it is my haven.

I've designed many gardens. There was the one for the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show (Bronze Medal, 2003) and the RHS Chelsea Flower Show (accepted by RHS, a someday project - that is forever seeking sponsorship). Also, a large handful of hotels and hospitality properties around the world and countless private gardens in the UK, Middle East, and USA. But I most enjoy teaching and encouraging others to find their own creative inspiration. And coaching them, so that they can build something that is uniquely theirs.

In 2008 I started a blog called Studio 'g' to help me organize my landscape design office. My nerdy self saw blog tools as a fantastic 'content management system'. I needed a better solution for overflowing catalog and sample shelves in my studio. But it quickly evolved into something else. Studio 'g' found fans and it grew and morphed. Eventually, writing, inspiring and telling stories about gardens and design around the world became my main gig.  In 2014, I changed the name to something more considered - PITH + VIGOR. Now this platform is not just a blog, but a place to explore creative publishing projects, online classes and reader events.
